Federal Agencies Using EPEAT

January 06, 2008

An interim ruling directs federal agencies to use the Electronic Products Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) to procure computer products while a final rule is being formulated.  The effective date for the interim ruling is December 26, 2007.

The Civilian Agency Acquisition Council and the Defense Acquisition Regulations Council agreed upon the interim rule, which amends the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) to require use of EPEAT when acquiring personal computer products such as desktops, notebooks, and monitors pursuant to the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and Executive Order 13423,‘‘Strengthening Federal Environmental,Energy, and Transportation Management.’’

Interested parties should submit written comments to the FAR Secretariat on or before February 25, 2008 to be considered in the formulation of a final rule.
