California Green Purchasing Seminars
The California State Association of Counties and the League of California Cities will host a series of green purchasing seminars throughout California. The workshops will feature RPN founding members from San Francisco and Santa Monica presenting case studies of their environmental procurement programs. RPN ally Scot Case, from TerraChoice, and others will provide introductions to responsible purchasing covering policy development and more. RPN Director Chris O'Brien will demonstrate practical resources and tools for implementing responsible purchasing programs. View a complete schedule. More

San Francisco Bans Bottled Water at City Offices
San Francisco’s Mayor Gavin Newsom issued an executive order prohibiting city departments and agencies from buying bottled water. Data show that 40 million gallons of oil are needed to make the plastic water bottles Americans purchase each year. In San Francisco, residents can purchase 1000 gallons of safe tap water for the same price as one gallon of bottled water.

The Center for Resource Solutions announced that Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) offered by Shell Trading are now Green-e certified. Shell Trading joins the network of renewable energy providers who offer products certified by Green-e, the nation’s leading certification and verification program for renewable energy. More
