The Responsible Purchasing Network, at the Center for a New American Dream, is offering pro bono assistance to five state and local governments committed to harnessing institutional procurement as a means of reducing waste, achieving greenhouse gas emissions goals, limiting toxic and hazardous substances, and improving community health.

Call for Stakeholders on Reusable and Plastic Bag Standards
Greenseal, the not-for-profit, independent certification and standard development body, is issuing a call for stakeholders as it revises its reusable bag standards and develops new standards for plastic resin film bags. Green Seal develops standards for a variety of products to help consumers and purchasers identify environmentally-preferable products and services.

Green Seal Cleaner Comment Period Extended
Green Seal, the not-for-profit, independent certification and standard development body, has announced that it is extending by two weeks the public comment period for its Proposed Revised Standard for Industrial and Institutional Cleaners, GS-37.

Toyota to Have HEVs in Every Series
Toyota President Katsuaki Watanabe announced that the company plans to offer a hybrid model in every vehicle series and continue its development of PHEVs and cellulosic ethanol.

Federal Agencies Using EPEAT
An interim ruling directs federal agencies to use the Electronic Products Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) to procure computer products while a final rule is being formulated.  The effective date for the interim ruling is December 26, 2007.

The Office of Federal Procurement Policy (OFPP), is proposing to issue a policy letter on green procurement policies and strategies.

US Bans the Bulb
President Bush signed the Energy Independence and Security Act into law this week. It will phase out incandescent light bulbs in the next four to 12 years in favor of compact fluorescents, halogens, and LEDs.
